For a cleaner world

Our responsibility

Modern and durable work clothes are a must in the restaurant and healthcare trade. But textile production is a strain on people and the environment. In order to take greater responsibility and lead the development towards more environmentally-friendly production, Segers is actively working on environmental issues.
Segers wants to be a source of inspiration to help make the world a better place and the textile industry more sustainable. We have our own plan how to do that. Sustainability certification is fair enough but, quite frankly, it is not always of real benefit to the environment. The most important thing is that our products are manufactured the right way, right from the start, and that they last a long time. When you buy a product from Segers, you buy a product that has been manufactured, undergone washability tests, checked for chemicals and been reasonably priced – at all stages. Our products are manufactured in our own production plants where we know our employees and feel responsible for them. We ensure they all have a good and safe workplace where taxes, insurance and pensions are paid to given them security now and in the future. We are proud to say that we do more than is expected of us but we still have a long way to go. The process is not easy but definitely worth it.

Segers makes it easier for suppliers

The EU Chemicals Legislation REACH's list of risk chemicals SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) It constantly changes and is difficult for the individual supplier to work with. Segers therefore works continuously and focused with the suppliers to ensure that hazardous chemicals are not used in Segers' products. With Seger's RSL (Restricted Substance list) based on the REACH legislation, we ensure that these substances do not appear in our products and that our suppliers have routines for testing the products they deliver to us. Segers also carries out random samples to check that no prohibited or regulated substances are found in the products. Segers is looking at alternative solutions for a more sustainable world. For example, cotton growing needs huge amounts of water and is an unsustainable strain on the environment. As an alternative, we have introduced Tencel™ (lyocell) into our range, which is produced more sustainably and uses some BCI cotton to support the work with global and large-scale change in conventional cotton production. Recycled polyester is also included in our range.

AMFORI-BSCI

Business Social Compliance Initiative, one of the world’s largest sustainability initiatives to create a more responsible supply chain. The Amfori BSCI is run by the Foreign Trade Association (FTA) in Brussels. At the request of the Amfori BSCI, our production is checked by an independent institute.

OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100

Since 1992, the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 has become an international measure of reliability throughout the entire fabrics chain. The Oeko-Tex system ensures that fabrics that have passed the tests and been certified do not contain harmful substances. The list of requirements contains over 100 test parameters to ensure that the fabrics are not harmful.

RECYCLED POLYESTER

The items Segers buys into with recycled polyester come from traceable, used PET bottles with GRS certificates that are milled down and converted into tiny chips. The chips in turn are melted down and strung into yarn which is then woven together with other yarns into fabric.

ISO 9001

International standard for efficient and structured quality work. Internal working methods are reviewed through a number of basic principles. Constant improvements are made to increase efficiency and profitability. This ensures the quality of services and products. Segers certification in Pakistan was carried out in March 2019.

ISO 14001

Recent years have seen environmental issues come to the fore, and today these issues have a prominent place in our business concept. Our customers are becoming more and more environmentally committed, which is reflected in their purchases of clothing. They require their suppliers to be environmentally certified. That is why we began to introduce the ISO 14001 environmental management system in November 1998. ISO certification was completed in May 2000.
